A rare collector’s violin gadget cane made with various precious woods, brass and bone.
Turned wooden handle, with a brass ring and ferrule.
Note:
- To play, you must unscrew the handle completely, remove the bow from inside the violin, take off the cover, screw the handle back on and adjust or position the small bridge.
- Tuning is carried out using a watch key which operates four tuning pegs.
The craftsmanship of these instruments is often of a very high standard, reflecting an era when violins were finished to an exceptional standard.
Most likely a Viennese piece by ‘Moritz Gläsel’, who made several types of cane violins (this one is unsigned).
Dimension: total length of the cane 82 cm.
Made in Vienna at the end of the 19th century.
