A reproduction by François Roux of a work by his father, depicting an Empire-era three-masted barque underway, on starboard tack with the mainsail set, flying the French flag on rough seas.

At the top of the mast: “Pelley,” the shipowner’s flag.

On the back is a label bearing the inscription by François Roux: “FRANCOIS ROUX  Sur le Port 23 MARSEILLE makes, sells, and repairs all kinds of instruments, flags, charts, and navigation instructions.”

Dimensions of the ornate Empire-period gilded wood frame: height 59 cm x length 70.7 cm.
