Oval-shaped single-latitude horizontal sundial made of silver.

The silver plate is engraved with an hour scale divided into III through XII and I through VIII, further subdivided into quarter-hour increments. Signed “Ferrier à Paris”.

Folding gnomon featuring a floral motif with grotesque figures and a radiating sun around the edge.

Rosace on the back.

Case made of mule hide with a red velvet interior.

Note: Guillaume Ferrier (active between 1618 and 1664) is a very rare signature. Sundials of different shapes signed by Ferrier are known to exist in the Billmeir and Oxford collections.

Dimensions: 5.6 cm long x 4.2 cm wide.

Made in Paris circa 1650–60.
