Galerie Delalande Paris

Brass equatorial ring with two circles signed "Lasnier à Paris".

The meridian circle, on the signature side, bears two latitude scales from 0 to 90 (for Northern and Southern hemispheres) as well as two cities with their latitude (Paris 49 - Brussels 51).

On the other side is a list of eight cities with their latitude.

The inner hour ring is graduated I to XII twice and subdivided into 15 minutes and graduated 1 to 12 twice on the inside. It stands on two small supports entirely engraved with acanthus leaves.

On the back, a list of seven cities and their latitude.

The central bridge bears on one side the scale of the months and on the other the Zodiac with a movable cursor in the center. On either side, acanthus leaves. Both bridge supports are engraved with floral motifs.

A small mobile throne supports a brass ring. Superb patina.

Note : Pierre-Alexis Lasnier (active from 1734), manufacturer of scientific instruments, took over from J. Lefebvre.

His signature is rare in the world of scientific objects. In the "Dictionnaire des fabricants français d'instruments de mesure du XV au début du XXème siècle", edited by Franck Marcelin, there is no record of an equatorial ring signed by him.

Dimensions : diameter of 9.3 cm x height of 12.2 cm (with ring).

Paris circa 1734/1740.
