A pair of Vaugondy globes on gilt tripod wood stands composed of a terrestrial globe and a celestial globe which is signed and dated "Par le S. Robert de Vaugondy Quai de l'Horloge 1763".

Literature: Son of the French XVIIth geographer Nicolas Sanson, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688/1766) and his son Didier Robert de Vaugondy (1723/1786) were the most French reknown geographers and cartographers of their time, both to the king. They both produced in common « l’Atlas Universel » in 1757.
