Butterfield silver horizontal sundial.

The top plate is engraved with four-hour scales 4-12-8 (two in Arabic numerals and two in Roman numerals) for latitudes of 43/46/49/52 degrees. In the center is a foliate scroll design with the signature "Le Maire fils à Paris". Folding bird pin gnomon with rare floral scroll decoration, one side of which bears an engraved scale of latitudes from 38 to 57 degrees. The bottom of the compass is engraved with the cardinal points and a fleur-de-lys, topped by a blued steel needle with brass pivot. The whole is covered with glass.

The bottom of the plate is engraved with a list of 18 cities with their latitude. The bottom of the compass is engraved with 6 latitudes and the gnomon spring is engraved with foliage decor. Small silver baluster foot.

Two hallmarks for Paris 1738/1744 and 1744/50.

Dimensions (dial): length of 7,2 cm x width of 6,4 cm.
